In my last post I told you Sharon was the
Queen of Halloween here at the Vintage Garden...
well she's just proving that point with this little beauty.

I think I'll call her Samantha,
because she's just the most bewitching combination
 of russet orange and light teal...
Perfect for any time of year...
 but of course it blends magically with any Halloween Decor.

for this time of year,

 but in the spring they will seem like little budding flowers...

A dresser for all seasons!

 And another shameless plug for the Witches Night Out.
We must all work together to fight the
Wicked Destruction of Breast Cancer.
If you're in the area, come out and join the fun...
and don't forget to bring your
Magic Coins for the Caldron-for-Cure.

Deck the hall with boughs of horror
Blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah

Gore & Gloom of every order,
Blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah,

  Don we now our grey apparel
    Blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah

 Feed the crows at your own peril,
 Blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah

See the creepy bones before us,
Blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah.
It makes us stay out of the forest.
Blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah

   But still we go in seek of treasure,
   Blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah

Goodies passed beyond all measure,
Blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah

(Now that's a Candy Dish!)

Sharon Porter is the
 Queen of Halloween
at my shop,
  Vintage Garden in Enumclaw.
She gets credit for most of these displays.

Sharon is quite the artist!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Although our halloween decorations are all in jest,
 this lovely lady is no joke.
 She's regal...
...with the jewels to prove it,
and a family crest to show her lineage.
...and she fit so nicely into our Halloween Display!
Never Underestimate the Power of a little Whink!
Gustav made a whirlwind appearance!
Well, it was a whirlwind here at the Vintage Garden,
but Gustav has actually been around a long time.
He's named after Gustav Stickley, the famed mission furniture designer.
 He didn't have any markings but his lineage and beauty won him the name.
He arrived a little worn and tattered.
Although all the marks of his long history
 couldn't be erased by a sandpaper and steel wool...
 But who would want to remove all tell tale signs of his history
...does your imagination sore at what was written from the ink
in the bottles that left these rings?
He was hungry for attention, and dry to the bone...
but an oil rub down brought out his glory and grain.
I was so excited to have Gustov ready
 that I gave him a few vintage pieces to hold
 while he awaited his new owner to come for him.
I failed to notice that one nice old enamel
 bowl wasn't holding back all the water given to the fern.
Water and old rust went thru and Gustav's new finish
 was marred by a dark black rust ring.
This is when you learn the power of a little Whink!
I don't have a picture of it to share, but it's my favorite rust remover...
a little fine steel wool and a little Whink and no more rust.
A little more sanding and a little more oil rub
(and about another hour) and he was ready again.
This time a little more caution used when setting him for display.
My one regret is that I wasn't able to be here when his new
Lady came to take him home...but I'm told it was a love renewed,
for she first loved him when she saw him in his shabbiest state.
Good luck and long life Gustav.
The Colonel is in the house...
Shades of Grey moved north and
this stately gentleman moved in.
He's been in service for about 50 years and
has a few of those marvelous chippy spots...
just to prove the work he's done.
He's earned his brass (or copper) and
although these pictures don't capture it,
they are shiny!
He's already making plans to move out of the shop
and we barely got to know him!
So long sir, we know you will continue
to provide many more strong years of service.
Shool Days
  Summer into Autumn
July & June let us frolic and play
but August brings the heat of day.
She leaves us want of slumber deep
and our hearts wishing these days to keep.
Then comes September...
 Patiently waiting beyond summer shores
with a clean crisp touch for the air outdoors,
Soon bells will ring and books will call
as school begins in the blush of fall.
School Days:
I want you to close your eyes
and imagine the first day of school...
what do you see?
When I closed my eyes,
this is the classroom I imagined
for our Vintage Garden Grammar School.
The fundamentals:
Some more challenging subjects:
A place to sit and learn:
 Supplies for the Classoom:
Something to make learning fun:
Lessons for getting along in the classroom:
Of course there may be a need for some discipline:
Would you feel 'Welcome' in our little classroom?
 Can you hear "School Days" playing in the background?
We can, 'cause it plays in our interactive shop window.
If you're in the area, please stop by and say hello!
Shades of Grey...
and it's not what you are thinking!
According to my friend Sharon,
this fine fella was in much need of rescue.
  I don't have any before pictures
but Sharon told me that he was needed so much 'luv'
that she had to flip his top over.
It was a good decision because look at his grains...
and these knobs are perfect,
 the capture all his colors.
(She makes the cutest tags!)
and...He's smooooth, real smooth!
You'd expect nothing less with a name like
Shades of Grey.
We will miss this fine fella.  Right now he's in the shop for $175,
but I'm sure he won't be here long.
