A Mother's Touch

It's been many years since my Mother passed...
Today I pause and think of all she did as a Mother.
She never made a decision that didn't account
for how it would effect myself & my brothers, even in the end,
she was thinking of how we would go forward.

Memory is a funny thing,
but for me,
one of the things I can always picture is my Mother's hands.
What makes that memory so strong;
her touch from those first moments of life,
her hands holding so steadily as I was learning to walk on my own,
both figuratively and physically,
always watching them at work or play
(cooking, cleaning, sewing, crafting, driving, reading,
 playing cards, drinking coffee,
helping my dad, paying the bills, even smoking).
Watching them throughout the things that filled our day
in and out, day after day, year after year.

Images of specific moments fade in and out
but in all the things that filled our life,
I can always remember my Mother's Hands.

I wish I had this image of my own Mother's hands...
but instead they are of another young mother, very special to me.
My brother's wife Denice...
they represent the touch I remember,
that many remember...warm & comforting memories.

Little Miss Independence

'This-n-That'

is a wonderful little shop in
downtown Enumclaw, WA.

Connie is the owner and she and
her staff were great supporters of
'The Witches Night Out in Enumclaw'
as well as my little 'Vintage Garden' while it was open.
Photo: Oh Boy Its that time of year Christmas at This-n-That It is our annual Christmas Open House Stop by on Saturday Nov 16. We will lots of fun things going on this day. Stop in and say hi to Mrs. C she will be here bustling around, hoping that her ELVES worked magic in the store. See you there
Mr. & Mrs. Connie Claus
As soon as she heard the shop was closing,
Connie made a point of coming to me and asking
if I would like to consign a few items in her shop.

Even though it's a store of...hmmm...
this-n-that...
between space and style,
theconsignable pieces are limited.

Connie made a specific request for one of
the flowering chairs I love to plant:
so without further ado, let me present...

'Little Miss Independence'

She's holding little sprouts right now,
but by Memorial Day she'll be in full bloom,
and by the 4th of July she'll be cascading
Red, White & Blue.

The cup and saucer are vintage,
'Independence' ironstone...
such a fitting shelter for a little songbird.

A tribute to the Land of the Free and Home of the Brave.

PS:  You can find our little This-n-That on:

Yoo hoo...is anyone still there?

I know it's been a long time since my last post...
but it's been a whirlwind of a year.
  • Porter Antiques closed (home of my 58 Vintage Faire booth)
  • So I opened 'Vintage Garden' in the front of the florist
  • Moved my Home & Work Space
  • Hosted the 2nd Annual 'Witches Night Out in Enumclaw"
  • The florist took a surprisingly sudden retirement...so...
  • I closed the Vintage Garden
  • Moved everything between storage & home
  • Home now equals Warehouse!
  • Kept up my real job and 'gave them a few hours' to get some projects done
  • Hiatus needed and taken
I'm getting 'back in the saddle' again...
and feeling very energized as I consider the right place to share my treasure:
I've submitted applications to local shows and
I've put my name on the waiting list of a new Antique Mall in the area.

When I opened the 'Vintage Garden',
I chose that name to support the association with the Florist,
but now I'm transitioning everything back to '58 Vintage Faire'.
I've contacted FB and should soon see the name change there too,
but for nowyou can still follow me on FB via
Vintage Garden, Enumclaw

I'll let you know when and where it all 'lands'.
In the mean time,
I want to share a few pictures from the
benefit sales that started this whole venture.

Vintage Faire 2010
Denice honored our mother by choosing
'Simply Arlyce'
as the theme for her Breast Cancer 3 Day walk.

Corey, Denice & Hannah at the Original Vintage Faire

The second Vintage Faire
supported my brother Don's Stair Climb with Buckley Fire Dept
to help fight Leukemia
in honor and memory of our cousin Greg.

Greg & my brother Don, Best Man & Groom at Don's Wedding

Don (always Donny to me) brought the Vintage Fire Truck to the Vintage Faire!

Denice & Anne joined forces.

Good times...and more to come...keep checking back!
